Zoo Parrots

Its difficult having a new baby, but not being able to play with him. To lessen my pain, my husband took me to the zoo. I of course went crazy over the parrots. Enjoy

Loki is Home!

He's here, he's here.

Loki flew from Cleveland to Dayton with no problem. We waited for an hour for them to unload him but he wasn't worse for wear - I was going crazy though. When I checked in the crate he hissed at me thought. Guess he is holding a grudge.

My mother is determined to teach him to say "purple," which is her favorite color. He did like her best, he chirped at her the whole ride home. He is settling in now, I really want to pet my new guy but right now he needs his quiet time.

Insomnia

I just can't sleep.

I have been up and then back to bed again and again. I tried to go to bed at 11, then at midnight. Now its 4am and I'm wide awake. Was it the diet Coke? The popcorn? Is the room too hot? No, no and no.

Its because Loki is coming tomorrow - actually he is coming today! At 8am my father is coming with the van to drop off the playstand we made and then we drive to the airport to get my baby.

I am so excited.

His travel cage and his real cage are all ready. His food and water are on the bottom of the cage. I lowered the perches and took out the grates. There are toys and treats everywhere. Now I just need my bird.

It's 4:44am now- why can't it be 8am?

Its a Boy!

My breeder sent me pictures today of my new baby. Its a boy and he is a cutie. He is currently on one feeding a day and she is about to stop the feedings. He can come home as early as next week!

I'm so excited, but the bird room is no where near finished. I still have to paint and make two playstands. And I need more toys, and more toys. I need to call the vet. I need to finish his swing. I also need to clean out his travel cage. I need to make bird mash . . .

The good news is his food arrived and his harness is here.

So now, introducing Loki.

Christmas in August

Today it was Christmas in August. Why? My order from My Safe Bird Store was at my door!

It wasn't just like Christmas because I got a package - it was what was inside the package. First it was just a big heavy box. The UPS guy dropped it off (door bell ringing was not needed, Arwen recognizes the UPS truck from down the street). It was heavy, but I had ordered 20lbs of Roudybrush for Loki.

Then I opened the box.

Was that wrapping paper? Yes it was. I thought it was cute. I moved the paper aside and was astounded. She had wrapped everything. There were cute gift bags! And ribbon! Suddenly I wished the order was for me, not the bird.

Then I opened the bags. There was everything I ordered, and freebies! There were foot toys and a hanging toy. And CANDY. There was a bagful of candy for me.

It was my first Christmas in August. Lets just say, I will be ordering from My Safe Bird Store again - customer for life.

Beginnings

I’ve always wanted a blog. I made several – a hiking blog, a cooking blog, a drawing blog. I never published them. I could never follow through. Time was always too short.

Then suddenly, I’m finished with my Master’s degree, and in September we are adding a member to our family. A parrot. I thought, “I would love to record everything about my new baby, day by day,” and Krissa’s Kritters was born.

Stay tuned to meet the family and to see the chaos that occurs when our new bird arrives.
